In person at Newtonville Books! Annie Hartnett discusses and signs "Unlikely Animals" at 7 pm

Newtonville Books is excited to announce that events are returning to the bookstore!  Our event series - some will be on-site, some will be virtual - kicks off in the store with Newtonville Books alum Annie Hartnett, and her much anticipated second novel, Unlikely Animals, on May 4th at 7pm.

In Unlikely Animals, you'll find natural-born healer Emma Starling once had big plans, but she’s lost her way. A medical school dropout, she’s returned home to care for her dying father. Clive Starling has been hallucinating small animals, as well as having visions of the ghost of a long-dead naturalist, Ernest Harold Baynes, once known for letting wild animals live in his house. Ernest's ghost has been giving Clive some ideas on how to spend his final days.

Annie Hartnett is the author of Rabbit Cake, listed by Kirkus Reviews as one of the Best Books of 2017.  She was a finalist for the New England Book Award. She has received fellowships from the MacDowell Colony, Sewanee Writers’ Conference, and the Associates of the Boston Public Library. She studied philosophy at Hamilton College, has an MA from Middlebury College, and an MFA from the University of Alabama. She lives in Massachusetts with her husband and daughter.

Masks will be required for indoor events. If you're unable to attend but would like a signed book, please order below and pick up your copy after the event!

“This tragicomic novel is heartfelt, touching, and delightfully quirky. You’ll fall in love with the offbeat cast of characters (both living and dead) and find yourself rooting for them right through the last page.”—Good Housekeeping (Book Club pick)
